Co-operative Youth Services (CYS) provides opportunities for young people to become involved in the co-operative business sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. CYS invites you to join our network of young people who are learning more about co-ops and credit unions through participation in programs and services offered at the provincial, regional, and national levels.
Co-ops are incorporated businesses established by groups of individuals, privately owned businesses and/or community development organizations to provide themselves with needed services. These stakeholders or co-op “members” jointly own and control their co-op and are the primary beneficiaries of the services it provides. Co-ops can be formed for many different purposes, are active in many sectors of our economy and serve many communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
CYS offers opportunities for participation in a variety of activities including co-op youth camps, work shops, conferences and other youth oriented events. You can learn about the benefits of becoming a member/owner of a co-op/credit union that serves your community. You can also learn how you join with others to develop your own local co-op to meet your business and/or service needs
By joining the CYS network you will receive our e-newsletter and regular information updates on programs, services and participatory events that are available for young people in Newfoundland and Labrador. Examples include:
- IMPACT! The Co-operators national Youth Conference for Sustainability Leadership which was held in 2009 and will be held again in 2011 in Central Canada;
- The Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) which provides opportunities for youth to work as interns in third world communities.
